DELAFIELD, Wis. (Stockpickr) -- Professional traders running mutual funds and hedge funds don't just look at a stock's price moves; they also track big changes in volume activity. Often when above-average volume moves into an equity, it precedes a large spike in volatility.
>>5 Stocks Poised for Breakouts
Major moves in volume can signal unusual activity, such as insider buying or selling -- or buying or selling by "superinvestors."
Unusual volume can also be a major signal that hedge funds and momentum traders are piling into a stock ahead of a catalyst. These types of traders like to get in well before a large spike, so it's always a smart move to monitor unusual volume. That said, remember to combine trend and price action with unusual volume. Put them all together to help you decipher the next big trend for any stock.
>>5 Big Trades to Take This Year
With that in mind, let's take a look at several stocks rising on unusual volume recently.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Matt DiLallo]
Looking further afield, the rough weather this spring could still signal problems for others in the industry, particularly oil-field service companies. One company to watch here isNuverra Environmental Solutions (NYSE: NES ) , which had itsfirst quarter reportaffected by theweather. In fact, "unusually harsh" conditions at its Bakken operations cost the company 13 days of work, or about 15% of the quarter, according to CEO Mark Johnsrud. Overall, weather caused the company to miss revenue estimates by 4.4%, which has weighed on it stock ever since that report. Another weather-related miss could really sink this stock.

Water recycling is the new normal
Each frack job uses millions of gallons of freshwater. However, if Halliburton has its way the industry will use 25% less freshwater next year, employing recycled water instead. The company has partnered with Nuverra Environmental Solutions (NYSE: NES ) on a solution called H2O Forward that will recycle water that flows back during the fracking process. Nuverra Environmental Solutions is an ideal logistical partner on this venture because its entire business model is built around treating, recycling, and properly disposing of the water used to frack each well.

Prepaid cards that can be loaded with cash and used like debit cards are the new payment form of choice for scammers, replacing the classic method of asking victims to send money via a wire transfer service like Western Union (WU) or Moneygram (MGI). The most common vehicle is the Green Dot (GDOT) MoneyPak, which is available nearly everywhere and works just like a wire transfer. Once money is transferred via MoneyPak, it's gone without a trace. But if you've been victimized by a scam, "gone without a trace" is not what you want to hear. You want to hear: "Hi, this is Green Dot customer service. Of course we can help you get your money back." And that, according to the FBI, is just what a new crop of scam websites are doing: Pretending to provide customer service for MoneyPak, with phone numbers that actually lead to con artists aiming to re-scam the victims of earlier scams. The FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center reports that it has received a large number of complaints about this new fraud technique. Typically, the victim is either someone trying to get a refund of what's on their card, or someone seeking help after they've been robbed in a scam involving a MoneyPak card, the FBI said. Seeking Refunds or Help, but Being Victimized Again In the refund version of the scam, the FBI said the crooks will ask for both the MoneyPak card number and either a credit card or checking account number, supposedly so a refund can be processed. Instead, the crooks now have all the information they need to use the victim's account to load the card, and then drain it. The victim variation targets those who have already had money stolen from them using a MoneyPak card. The phony customer service representative will explain to the caller that to get the lost funds put back on the card, they'll have to first load the same amount of cash on the card again from their own account, because "reloading is the only way to process the refund." "In most complaints, victims are gi

The rupee fell the most in a week on concern slowing economic growth will make it tougher to attract investment as the U.S. prepares to rein in stimulus.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Rick Munarriz]
Thursday
Tellabs (NASDAQ: TLAB ) checks in on Thursday. The provider of mobile backhaul, packet optical, and services solutions to communications services lost its CEO to colon cancer last year. It has also lost its mojo. Wall Street sees Tellabs merely breaking even in 2013 on a 14% decline in revenue. - [By Rich Smith]
You have to hand it to Tellabs (NASDAQ: TLAB ) -- they work fast.
Late last month, the networking equipment maker had to scramble when its acting chief financial officer, Tom Minichiello, announced plans to retire on July 12 to become the new CFO at Westell Technologies (NASDAQ: WSTL ) . On Friday, though, just as the deadline was happening, Tellabs announced that it has found a replacement.

The biggest new holdings are Seagate Technologyand Warner Chilcott. Other new holdings of interest include Tellabs (NASDAQ: TLAB ) and Windstream (NASDAQ: WIN ) . Tellabs offers a satisfying dividend yield of 3.7%, but the networking equipment maker has been facing some headwinds, such as the death of its CEO and the recent departure of its CFO. Its performance has been spotty, besting estimates in its fourth quarter but disappointing them in the recent first quarter.

Would this be a surprise?
Quite frankly, it wouldn't be a surprise to see the first 14/16-nanometer mobile chips from Qualcomm come out in the timeframe stated above. For example, the iShares MSCI Emerging Markets ETF (EEM) is comprised of companies that, while domiciled in the emerging world, get a large chunk of their revenues from exporting to the West. Think Samsung (SSNLF) and Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM). Rumor has it that the two frenemies will put some distance between them. Taiwanese tech publication DigiTimes has long suggested that Apple's core chips might find a new home in massive chip foundry Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (NYSE: TSM ) -- and now the publications claims that it's a done deal.

On July 18, I recommended readers sell puts on Carbo Ceramics (NYSE: CRR), a company heavily involved in hydraulic facturing, or fracking, a process used to extract oil and gas from rock formations.

Basic guidelines
In this series, I examine inventory using a simple rule of thumb: Inventory increases ought to roughly parallel revenue increases. If inventory bloats more quickly than sales grow, this might be a sign that expected sales haven't materialized. Is the current inventory situation at CARBO Ceramics (NYSE: CRR ) out of line? To figure that out, start by comparing the company's inventory growth to sales growth. How is CARBO Ceramics doing by this quick checkup? At first glance, not so great. Trailing-12-month revenue decreased 1.3%, and inventory increased 7.5%. Comparing the latest quarter to the prior-year quarter, the story looks potentially problematic. Revenue shrank 9.5%, and inventory increased 7.5%. Over the sequential quarterly period, the trend looks worrisome. Revenue dropped 3.9%, and inventory grew 4.8%.
