Shares of Glacier Media (GLMFF.PK)(GVC.TO) ("Glacier" or "the company") are cold product in this market of stocks, trading at decade lows after a summer sell-off. Famed value investor Walter Schloss preferred buying stocks not at 52-week lows, but at multi-year lows. If Mr. Schloss were here with us today, I suspect he'd be taking a look at Glacier shares.
Glacier shares that trade over-the-counter in the US are quite illiquid; alternatively, the Canadian issue provides ample volume to build a decent position, if one were so inclined.

Gene J. Puskar/AP WASHINGTON and NEW YORK -- Comcast (CMCSA) sought to rebut critics of its planned $45.2 billion takeover of Time Warner Cable (TWC), arguing that newcomers such as Google and Apple would ensure competition in both Internet and video markets. In a 175-page filing with the Federal Communications Commission that coincides with the formal launch of the controversial deal, Comcast argued that either all or key areas of its and Time Warner Cable's businesses compete with an "array of sophisticated companies with national or even global footprints." The U.S. Department of Justice will conduct the antitrust review and the FCC will examine whether the deal is in the public interest. Comcast has pledged to divest some cable subscribers so the combined company would serve just under 30 percent of the U.S. pay television video market. The company said it would serve between 20 and 40 percent of the U.S. broadband subscribers. MoffettNathanson research estimates the company would cover about 33 percent of the high-speed Internet market. Opponents have raised concerns that the combined company will have too much power over what Americans can watch on television and do online, becoming a powerful buyer of Web and pay-TV content. The cable companies are expected to face those concerns on Wednesday when their officials, Comcast's executive vice president David Cohen and Time Warner Cable's finance chief Arthur Minson, testify in Congress. In Tuesday's filing, Comcast argues that such concerns are unwarranted, especially given the growing competitiveness of both the video and internet markets. The filing names Amazon.com (AMZN), Apple (AAPL), Google (GOOG), Microsoft (MSFT), Verizon Communications (VZ), Netflix (NFLX), Dish Network (DISH) and DirecTV (DTV) as companies making progress over the last decade in competing against Comcast with video content, while cable operators have lost subscribers. Andrew Harrer/Bloomberg via Getty Images They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. So, Comcast (CMCSA), consider yourself flattered, because Time Warner Cable (TWC) is copying off your homework. A couple of weeks ago, we told you about Comcast's "Great New Secret Cable Plan" to try to halt the exodus of subscribers from its services. The Comcast plan allows subscribers to sign up for: A menu of 45 or so of the most-watched, most useful cable channels The premium pay-TV channel HBO -- plus included HBO GO service for mobile devices High-speed Internet access at speeds up to 25 Mbps A subscription to XFINITY Streampix, Comcast's service for streaming video of complete seasons of popular television shows from recent years past... ... all for the low, low price of just $40 or $50 a month (depending on location). The plan was "secret" because Comcast didn't make much of an effort -- or really effort -- to publicize it. There's hardly even a mention of the plan on the company's website. In other words, it seems like Comcast would prefer to keep the new plan hush-hush so you continue paying for one of their more expensive bundles. However, word of Comcast's under-the-radar new plan get out -- nearly 5,500 DailyFinance readers printed, emailed, commented on, Tweeted, or Facebooked our story on Comcast's "Internet Plus" bundle last month. So Comcast competitor Time Warner did what any good competitor does: It copied the model and, this week, began offering a similar plan of its own: Dubbed "Starter TV with HBO," Time Warner's plan is an even more slimmed-down version of Comcast's idea. It features: "20+" cable channels, including the five biggies -- ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, and PBS HBO and HBO GO and... well, actually, that's about it. At $30 a month, Time Warner handily undercuts Comcast's Internet Plus offer on price. And yet, it's hard not to wonder if customers aren't still overpaying. For one thing, Time Warner's Starter TV with HBO offer

Question: How do you think about DIRECTV (DTV) in terms of competitive advantage and valuation?
DIRECTV is the largest satellite broadcaster in the U.S. and has rapidly growing, dominant market share in Latin America. Domestically, the company offers better quality and programming to attract high-end customers that pay premium rates with little churn. Pricing power has driven rising ARPU (average revenue per user). Because viewers will nplugfor some of their viewing over time, we place a lower multiple on the U.S. than in the past. But live sports where DTV has unique offerings are much less vulnerable to delayed viewing. In Latin and South America, DTV has almost no competition in most countries because cable has not been and will not be installed in less developed places with minimal infrastructure. Although the stock is multiples above our cost in DTV, the price remains below our appraisal as value has grown steadily from management reinvestment of the cash coupon into high-returning Latin America and discounted shares.
